With over one million visitors a month, Net-a-Porter.com has become a prominent luxury high-end shopping website where savvy shoppers can find all of the seasons must have clothing, shoes and accessories.
Natalie Massenet, the company's founder and chairman, says her success is based on providing hard-to-find fashion must-haves, not the fashion misses.
A former fashion-magazine editor, Massenet came up with the idea for the company when she couldn't find designer collections online.
In June 2000, the website was launched on a $1 million investment, and has doubled it's turnover each year since it's commencement. With 140,000 regular users, the average cost per click on Net-a-porter is $800. The e-tailer ships it's 160 luxury, designer brands to 150 countries.
Net-a-porter offers a perfect mix of a magazine setting and online store; this being one of the attributes to the site's success. If anyone still has doubts on the success of luxury e-tailing, take note that Net-a-porter's waiting lists start as soon as runway shows end.
